In-Character Information
Name: Barnaby Brooks, Jr.
Series: Tiger & Bunny
Canon-Point: Before the Jake incident, around episode 8.
History: Barnaby comes from a place vaguely like New York City, with a 1970s aesthetic to it and with the exception that some people have super powers. It is unknown how these individuals developed powers, but the world has accommodated them by making a reality show known as Hero TV Live. This show televises the exploits of a handful of super-powered humans as they arrest criminals and do other such heroic things.
Barnaby himself was orphaned at age 5, when he witnessed the murder of his parents before his eyes. He only remembers the culprit as a black silhouette with a particular tattoo oh their hand - the symbol of a criminal syndicate known as Ouroboros, as it turns out. Barnaby spent all of his childhood searching for more information about this organization, looking for the identity of the one who murdered his parents - in hopes of revenge!
The one who acted as his guardian was a man known as Maverick, an old friend of his parents. Maverick is the owner and president of the media company in charge of producing Hero TV. As part of his own questionable plans, Maverick sets up the young Barnaby to become a hero for the show. Barnaby goes along with this, thinking it will help him get closer to the truth about the murderer.
And so Barnaby ends up forming one half of the first tag-team hero duo, along with another man known as Kotetsu. They don't get along, however. Their teamwork doesn't seem to be growing much better as the weeks go by, but, before much else can develop, he finds himself in Unova. Whoops.
Personality: Focus and dedication are strong points of this guy. In fact, he displays such focus that it is really obsession, when it comes to avenging his parents. He spent all of his life since age 5 trying to find the culprit, gathering enormous amounts of vague data. He allowed himself no time for recreation, genuine human interaction, or anything else. In truth, he has never really lived.
His outward personality is rather cold. He displays a ruthless streak, and is not above manipulating others to get what he wants. He puts much effort into cultivating an impeccable persona, be it a flawless student or a celebrity hero. When pressed about it, he casually dismisses this effort as being part of his job.
In his core, his disposition is warmer. He is capable of loyalty, and he's very much an agent of good. He is mechanical and guarded, but deeper within himself he holds remarkable passion - love for his deceased parents and, though he himself doesn't seem to realize it, compassion and a sense of justice.
He tends to be fussy and prissy, enjoying rosé wine the best and nitpicking about indirect lighting in interior design. In a later episode, he refuses a decorative pin because it would ruin his jacket, which - he insists - is real leather.
Though poised and confident, he's actually kind of brittle. A large hibiscus decoration in his apartment alludes to this - in flower language, hibiscus means fragile beauty. His careful persona is kind of like a house of cards, and it can be shaken and broken through.
Powers: In-universe, he can activate his ability to increase his physical capacities by a factor of 100, for five full minutes. For U_O, I'm thinking to limit this to a factor of 25 for one minute, or something like that. He obviously doesn't have his armored suit, either.
He has considerable athletic prowess though, can do martial arts, and has proven capable of hero-ing without even activating his powers. Kicks are his specialty.
